ZERO GRAVITY – Holocaust Awaits (CD)
India has had a blossoming death and thrash metal music scene within the last several years, and with this sprouting we’re presented with death/thrashers Zero Gravity, who is sure to level concrete constructed buildings within their path of destruction. Music-wise, this group is not highly unique, but they’ve some noteworthy growl vocal phrasings mixed with some spoken lines, and some bestial-sounding guitars in a total onslaught with the thunderous drumming frenzy.
Listening to this fivesome is kind of agonizing, as they switch back and forth from the slow grinding guitars to the more mid-tempo sonic warfare. “Holocaust Awaits” is not a bad album, but for some odd reason just did not click with me. The band is tight, proficient with their respective instruments, and put on a solid performance, but for me it was not daring enough to tread new musical extremes. The quality of the album’s production is good, the mix is spot on, and the album artwork is definitely creepy with humanoid-type bodies hanging from stripped-down trees somewhere in the woods. Their music surely fits their album artwork, I’ll give then that much.
Check it out, you might just dig them if you’re into Death, Sepultura, and Arch Enemy. [Transcending Obscurity] Sarjoo Devani
