Italia’s extreme, progressive death metal experimentalists Will ‘O’ Wisp are no strangers to the extreme metal scene as their newest release “Kosmo” is a true testament to sheer musical brilliance and deep thought-provoking lyrical mastery. This Italian quartet plays an atmospheric form of death metal with progressive hints, which only puts the listener in a super-refined meditative trance.
“Kosmo” defies all musical conventions definitely strives to break new ground, and for the band it is a whole new world as their past releases sound nothing like this. These guys have surely matured as musicians and songwriters as can be heard on their Hindu, Dalai Lama and Buddhism-inspired lyrics and musical passages inspired by the spiritual conventions of such soul searching philosophies.
Take a listen to the noteworthy title track “Kosmo” and you will be blown away by its Oriental/Asian musical influences, which also has a sitar passage in the opening part of the song and other atmospheric influences that border on eastern spiritual characteristics.
If the philosophical side of “Kosmo” does not open your mind to your inner core, I do not know what will as Will ‘O’ Wisp has surely written their best record to date.
This album is not for everyone, but listeners of extreme metal who seek such mind altering auditory therapy will be completely free of all worldly pains and desires here.
