Valdur - Divine Cessation
The evil legions who make up Valdur, and have been creating blasphemous blackened death metal since 2003, from Mammoth Lakes, California, are back with their latest slab of cult blasphemy in the form of “Divine Cessation”.
The seven wicked and flesh bruising cuts featured here, lean more in the black metal vein but with guttural and darkened vocals to decimate the ears of even seasoned fans of extreme underground metal. The death metal elements can be heard within their bestial vocals as well as parts of their thunderous drumming antics. The guitars are more within the black metal realm with their melancholic vibes painting a bleak picture of death and suffering throughout each song.
Opening track “Breath Of The Beast” starts of with its mesmerizing guitar riff and then just bludgeons the listener into the blackened abyss of total death. With its seven minute length, this song features everything from fast drumming parts to the horrid, guttural vocals (also found on the other six cuts) to the melancholic atmospheres created by the unholy distortion-driven sounds of the guitars.
Valdur at times remind of the down tuned mayhem found on Cyanide’s debut album. However “Divine Cessation”, is much faster in the drumming and guitar sections. The way this foursome write and arrange their songs, they’ve got a much more epic yet very punishing edge, which leaves the listener in total despair of the darkened unknown.
“Divine Cessation” is not for everyone, but highly recommended for fans of extreme underground death and black metal. Check it out and watch your bloody soul burn in total depravity. Bloody Mountain Records. Sarjoo Devani
