TRIUMVIR FOUL – An Oath Of Blood And Fire E.P. (CD)
This four song EP from Portland, Oregon band speaks volumes and volumes of brutal Swedish death metal influenced by Dismember, Grave and Unleashed.
The guitars on “An Oath Of Blood And Fire” have tons of similarities to that of Dismember’s guitar rhythm sound, with the vocals slightly edging on Autopsy and Grave. Their drumming is a total carbon copy of the old school of death metal made popular by that of Swedish death metal bands of the early nineties.
This ep has a very demo tape feel to it, so do not expect a clean production, as the sound has a lot to be desired. Maybe a cleaner sound on future studio recordings will make these guys even sicker and heavier than they are here.
I did not care too much for their loose sound on here, mainly being from their playing, as the band does not sound cohesive at all. Triumvir Foul should not be completely written off just yet, as it remains to be seen whether they can grow as musicians and get even tighter as a band. All of these necessary skills and creativity should come with time and more gigs and studio time.
Definitely a must for fans of Swedish death metal, as this bitch kills. [Self Released] Sarjoo Devani
