SOLACE OF REQUIEM – Casting Ruin (CD)
Wow, finally, a black and death metal band that is not European, and this evil trio known as Solace Of Requiem hail from Virginia, US of A. Yes, surprisingly the U.S. also has extreme black/death metal bands, which can match the Euro bands toe to toe, as is the case with these guys. Solace of Requiem plays an interesting and complex style of black metal meets death metal, with some weird nuances in the background. At times you’ll be tortured with orchestral arrangements and at times you’ll come across industrial type of sounds within their backdrop.
“Casting Ruin” is carefully crafted with the finest elements of sharp, dagger-like riffing, cranium splitting rhythms, artery embolism causing drum work, and the raspy and growl vocals are bestial enough to scare the living shit out of the listener. When listening to the vocals on “Song Of Shards”, you’ll feel like you are being tormented by the devil and his angels of hell. The nine tracks on this album, come across as very disturbing at times and at others very punishing to the senses. This is Solace of Requiem’s fourth release, not familiar with their last three albums, I can only imagine the material on there is just pain staking to listen to. [ViciSolum] Sarjoo Devani
