SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY - Defective Overpass e.p. (CD)
Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s somewhat progressive black metal duo have written two interesting tracks, with one being extreme black metal with total atmosphere, trying to suffocate the listener, while the 2nd track is more of an acoustic and cleanly sung prog folk metal-like with more of a depressive element.. Shroud Of Despondency is a very talented bunch, but the drum machine just makes their sound too mechanical and redundant at times, as it tends to repeat itself, as if it is looped. However, this-twosome has potential to be a solid progressive black metal entity, unfortunately, this e.p. will be the band’s last record together.
You probably ask, is their two-song e.p. “Defective Overpass” worthy of your attention – I say, yes check it out and be your own judge, you just might dig it. However, if you're expecting anything along the edges of heavy metal music, this will bore the hell out of you. [Self-Released] Sarjoo Devani
