Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow – Memories In Rock – Live In Germany

Guitar virtuoso and songwriter Ritchie Blackmore is back with his band with “Memories In Rock – Live In Germany”, and this DVD and two CD set is brilliantly put together as a nice package.

The production of the whole concert in Germany is breathtakingly put together, with a stunning laser light show, pyrotechnics, and a colorful stage presence made for an interesting viewing experience.

Watching Blackmore play some interesting and catchy harmonies and riffs found on classics such as “Highway Star”, “Since You’ve Been Gone”, my all time favorite song from Rainbow “Man On The Silver Mountain” was an awe-inspiring moment. His virtuoso playing and command of the fret board speaks volumes and volumes how talented of a rock guitarist he is.

I love the fact, that listening to Blackmore’s unique style of playing is always refreshing, as you do not come across his style of playing and sound from any musician within the rock and metal genres. He has certainly an original style and tone that many guitarists could only dream of. Seeing him play at this two-hour outdoor concert venue, with all of his fans going totally crazy after him just shows how revered he really is, as his playing is still relevant in today’s heavy metal circles.

In addition, frontman Ronnie Romero just sings his heart on every song played here, especially on the cut “Man On The Silver Mountain”, as he pays total homage to the late and great Ronnie James Dio. Romero’s passion can be found on every song, as his emotions just run rampant here. His stage performance is something that would make Dio very proud, and is definitely doing Rainbow very good, as he is a strong fit for this band.

Drummer David Keith, bassist Bob Nouveau provide a crisp and heavy rhythm section, giving Rainbow’s music a rockin’ edge whilst still maintaining that true Rainbow sound and character.

Synth virtuoso and extraordinaire Jens Johansson breathes even more fire into the band’s strong set, at times reminding of the late John Lord, especially on the likes of “Highway Star” and the AOR format hit “Smoke On The Water”.

Moreover, the two audio CDs are well produced for a live recording, and feature the same song lineup to that found on the DVD.

There are also four bonus tracks here as well, from Alternative Night too, which too were shot on location, in Germany.

“Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll”, “Black Night”, “Smoke On The Water”, “Highway Star”, “Man On The Silver Mountain” and “Stargazer” are just few of the cool highlights here, but watching Blackmore and company perform live in front of a wild crowd is an exhilarating experience in itself. Check it out.   Eagle Vision  Sarjoo Devani
