When one thinks of Sweden, they are reminded of the cold, bone chilling and dreary winters, and Ikea. However, when the average metal head thinks of Sweden, they’re reminded of melodic death metal stalwarts At The Gates, Dissection, Meshuggah, Marduk, Europe and many other groups within this genre of music. However, lets not forget that Stockholm, Sweden has always been a hot bed for hardcore music, and Revenge play a comical style of hardcore with some seriousness to their lyrics. Musically, they’re focused more on the basic chord structures, simple rhythm structures backed by hard-hitting drums (that kind of sound loose at times, whereby the drummer is tempted to do his own thing), but surprisingly stays along with the band.
With songs like “Insomniac”, you cannot help but laugh as it is about the singer’s plight of not getting a goodnight’s sleep, something most of us can relate to, ha, ha. This fearsome five is heavy at times, but more in the vein of early hardcore innovators as Madball, Biohazard and even punkers Black Flag and The Exploited. If you’re expecting something new and refreshing, this will disappoint as Revenge truly pay homage to the good old days of hardcore music. [Gaphals] Sarjoo Devani
