Netherland’s Pestilence is back with their latest offering; “Doctrine”, and it is full of so many of their trademark death metal sounds and style, you will feel as if you’re reliving the good old days of the late eighties death metal scene.
Musically, “Doctrine” is technical, maybe not as much as “Testimony Of The Ancients” or “Spheres”, but it is still very interesting with their unique songwriting arrangements, all the while still keeping it brutally sick and sinister in feel.
The drumming alone is very well done for all of the songs on here as they totally devastate the auditory nerves. Patrick’s vocal style and patterns are lethal enough when mixed with his downtuned, hell bent of self-destruction rhythms. And the riffs are as sharp as a newly created dagger.
Pestilence as a whole unit just crushes, especially with the superb production values, you are about get an earful of death metal that just might you cold, numb, and probably dead.
Their new material is pretty good, but for me “Malleus Maleficarum” and “Consuming Impulse” are still the true contenders when it comes to brutal, old school death metal.
“Doctrine” is sure to satisfy the extreme metal urge in the most demanding death metal purist.
