Misanthropic Rage – Gates No Longer Shut
This duo known as Misanthropic Rage, from Poland, play a very dissonant, disturbing and chaotic blend of black metal that just makes your stereo speakers explode with destructive fury. This duo play some tripped out-sounding guitar riffs and rhythms, and a few of their songs here remind of early Voivod, with its eerie chord progressions and feelings of falling to the depths without any sort of control. Some of the other influences here pop up in the form of Abominator and Sadistik Execution, with the rough edges. Being this band is comprised of a duo, speaks volumes of their killer influences, and ability to convey such cold, bizarre and bleak lyrical spells over the listener’s mind.
In addition, to the cold and depressive moments found here, “Gates No Longer Shut” has an ancient spirit about it, as it reminds of the good old days of when black metal was still underground and heard on a small number of college radio stations featuring specialty extreme metal shows.
The band’s musicianship is spot on and tight, but the use of a drum machine at times makes it sound more mechanical, not natural. The use of a real sitting drummer should make Misanthropic Rage’s music even more interesting and also make it even more brutal.
The seven songs here add up to 40 minutes worth of black metal, which is sure to bruise up even the seasoned black metal head. Overall “Gates No Longer Shut” is a strong release, which is sure to garner plenty of underground fans on a worldwide scale. Gods Of War Productions Sarjoo Devani
