Mayhem – De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Mayhem, definitely prove time and time again, that their unique, old school abyss-fueled black metal is still fresh and relevant as it was 25 years ago.

And this brings us to their classic black metal cult release “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas”, which was performed in its entirety at a concert in Norway, in 2015. This was the first time this album was played in this format, with all of the songs coming from just the “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” album.

Skull crushers like “Funeral Fog”, “Freezing Moon”, “Cursed In Eternity”, “Pagan Fears”, “Life Eternal”, “From The Dark Past”, “Buried By Time and Dust” and the title track “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” are the highlights to be found on this awesome live release.

Never having been a fan of live records, but “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Alive” surely sold me over to the dark side known as Mayhem. The sound is fucking brilliant, raw enough, but audible to the point of making your ears just melt off of your head. The live audience can be heard, though not as much, but when you hear them, they’re going completely berserk for Mayhem.

The artwork, also redone for this release is brilliantly surreal-looking of a church, kind of frozen in time and “Buried By Time and Dust”.

This live recording by Mayhem is one of the best from their catalogue of live bootleg recordings, and is surely going to set the standard for recording a live performance, with the best mix and sound possible. Highly recommended.       Sarjoo Devani
