MACHINAE SUPREMACY – Phantom Shadow (CD)

Swedish melodic metal and heavy rock masters Machinae Supremacy is bound to rock your world with familiar sounds inspired by video games such as Final Fantasy and other well known video games from the eighties and nineties.

Their musicianship and vocals are quite unique and sound like no other, so for this reason alone it will take at least a few good spins to really enjoy this 16-tracker, which features 60 plus minutes of music. Their songwriting is very creative, as they feature plenty of unique styles and sounds inspired by video games such as Final Fantasy. Just listening to how this bunch has incorporated video game-like sounds with their richly crafted heavy rock/metal music is pretty interesting because all of the sounds and intricately woven musical instruments come together so well.

“Phantom Shadow” showcases a stunning display of superb musicianship, talented songwriting skills, and vocals that fit their music like a glove – it’s that perfect. Despite having all of these unique video game sounds within their songs, the emotions are still strong, as the songs just suck you right into the speakers and make you feel every note to its fullest. Just check out the off the wall and musically daring, “The Bigger They Are The Harder They Fall”, which features some of this band’s most intelligent songwriting along with skillfully executed riffs, harmonies and rhythms you’ll bang your head to.

There are 16 tracks on here and not one of them sounds like the other. They’re all so unique; they could’ve been taken from different records. It just amazes me as to how this band can write songs that are somewhat complex and unique yet so entertaining to listen to.

To truly experience the majestic musical splendor of Machinae Supremacy’s “Phantom Shadow”, you’ll need to check it out with a good set of headphones as this will only enhance your listening enjoyment. Check it out and find total bliss.     [Spinefarm]       Sarjoo Devani
