LIBERTINE CYST – Lamentations Of The Ashen (CD)
Libertine Cyst is more than just a black metal band, as their album “Lamentations Of The Ashen” is an amalgamation of atmospherics, earth scorching black metal, and melancholic emotions.
One minute, these guys are throwing raspy, malicious vocals at the listener, the next you’re bathed in clean singing, with ghostly guitar and synth passages. Keep in mind; this is all done within the span of under an hour through four songs, with the longest song clocking in at 18 minutes and 55 seconds.
There are morbidly, freezing fast parts here along with the more-subtle cleaner guitar arrangements and haunting nuances you’d probably find in a depressive drama flick.
It is pretty interesting how these guys can play such lengthy songs and diversify them with so many intricately pieced together musical parts, and keep the songs accessible to many different listeners.
Some of the closest references that come to mind as far as comparing Libertine Cyst’s music would be: Darkthrone, Katatonia, Agalloch and Enslaved. Highly recommended for people who want their music to make them feel depressed and hopeless, as you’ll lament your existence on “Lamentations Of The Ashen”. [Self-Released] Sarjoo Devani
