INGURGITATING OBLIVION – Continuum Of Absence (CD)
This is one band that has made a huge transition within their songwriting and in the presentation of their songs. “Continuum Of Absence” has a very darkened and an experimental edge on the seven slabs of suffocating death metal found here.
This is Ingurgitating Oblivion’s second album, for their new label Willowtip, and it sounds nothing like the Immolation-esque death metal found on their debut CD “Voyage Towards Abhorrence”. In fact, “Continuum…” is more in league with the last two Gorguts releases, with its atmospheric guitar arpeggios, pinched harmonics, mid to fast paced drumming, and growls that consume the listener with repeated listens. At times these guys bring to mind the technical prowess of the bands like Hate Eternal and even Incantation to a certain degree of complexity.
“Burden Of Recurrence” hits you in the guts with its agonizing rhythms, wrist slashing-riffs, and the growl-tinged vocals come at you like a ghost unleashed from the grave.
“Descent To The Temple” is the closest type of song these guys have to being in the guttural death metal vein, but even this track too has its cryptic-like Nile moments. Listening to this song brought images of zombies chasing after churchgoers from a Sunday service, and capturing them to only decapitate the unfortunate few.
Ingurgitating Oblivion is a tough act to beat, and this album shows why no other metal extremists can come close to their abhorrent audio killing spree. Be prepared to bleed for the devil on “Continuum Of Absence”. [Willowtip] Sarjoo Devani
