Helloween - Ride The Sky- The Very Best Of 1985-1998

This is definitely one of the better Best Of CDs I’ve heard from a heavy metal band, and Helloween makes their 13 cuts on offer here an awesome listening experience. The choice selection of songs chosen to make up this Best Of compilation CD by one of Heavy Metal’s most unique bands shows the different transformations this band went through, with their time at Noise Records. All of the songs on this CD show a diversified side of Helloween’s musicianship, songwriting abilities, and solid vocal performances.

The most notable aspects on this CD is the progression of vocals from first vocalist/guitarist Kai Hansen, then on with Michael Kiske’s debut on “Keeper Of The Seven Keys” to current vocalist Andy Deris, who debuted on the band’s “Master Of The Rings” record. All three of these singers have pushed Helloween to the next level of perfection and steadfast songwriting of memorable tunes, making them a strong contender within the heavy metal circles the world over.

Opening headbanger “Murderer”, the semi-technical, speed-laden antics of Halloween, the emotional vocal passages of “I want Out” and anthem-like style of “Why” makes this compilation a complete package. The lengthy liner notes are a welcome portion to this CD, as it gives interesting insight into the band’s adventurous career, along with some cool color promo shots of the band. Check this rockin’ Best Of CD by one of Heavy Metal’s best bands: Helloween.   Noise Records/BMG    Sarjoo Devani
