EVILSPELL – Necrology (CD)
Italian old school black thrashers definitely remind of the early days of when German thrash masters Kreator, Sodom, Destruction and Tankard ruled the extreme metal world with an iron fist.
“Necrology” is a full on onslaught of thrash metal with blackened thrash metal music influences along with the speed, which made the eighties bands of the same genre such innovators of this style of aggressive metal. Evilspell’s lyrical themes are about the dark side of life and its many ungodly perversions. The good thing is, you can understand the vocals to a certain degree, so you know what is being shouted out, and this aspect alone sends chills up your spine.
Their music is dark and at times comes across sounding so damn hopeless, you feel as if your world is coming to a senseless end. There are plenty of hints of early Slayer within “Necrology”, which remind of “Show No Mercy” meets “Terrible Certainty” (Kreator) meets “Obsessed With Cruelty” (Sodom). These three albums mixed up together sounds pretty grim and interesting, huh, well it sure is, because you’re going to be slamming and stage diving like there is no tomorrow. Do not be surprised if you end up becoming a suicide renegade hell bent on self-destruction.
These guys are nothing out of the ordinary, but sure know how to keep the flames of old school death, black thrash alive with the uncompromising intensity of “Necrology”. [Black Side] Sarjoo Devani
