Entrapment – Through Realms Unseen
Netherland’s Entrapment originally started out as a one-man project, but has now grown into this beast, which is capable of rendering irreparable damage to the listener.
“Through Realms Unseen” is a collection of 11 soul obliterating, groove, metal, thrashing death metal from the deepest bowls of hell. The down tuned guitar rhythms remind of earlier Swedish death metal masters Entombed, Unleashed, Carnage, with hints of Autopsy in places. The vocals sound very big, coming across demonic, which is sure to raise the hair up on your back. “Ruination” sounds like it comes from Entombed’s classic release “Left Hand Path”, with its raw, growl-like vocals and those notable Swedish grinding guitar rhythms.
Entrapment is not doing anything new musically, but they should be given respect, that they’re playing a style of Swedish/Scandinavian death metal, which is sorely missed in today’s extreme metal circles. The cool thing is they’re doing it really well, something, which most definitely would’ve been released in the early nineties.
One aspect, I really liked here, is the fact that every song on this CD is under five minutes in length, which keeps their musical arrangements interesting, and some of the songs here leave you hanging at the edge of your seat, without any sort of conclusion.
“Through Realms Unseen” is an album, which should be experienced loud, and certainly live, as this band is sure to inflict even more damage to the auditory canal with their chunky distorted sound at their live gigs.
Entrapment is sure to please fans of old school Swedish death metal, as this album is genuine as it gets. Pulverised Records Sarjoo Devani
