DOWNFALL OF NUR – Umbras de Barbagia (CD)
With epic, folk, pagan and hell inspired songs ranging from nine minutes to a depression inducing 17 minutes, Downfall Of Nur is sure to fuck up anyone’s mental state of being.
From the mind numbing blasting and soul-shredding guitars to the tranquil passages of hymns good enough to wake the dead, the listener is taken on an unknown journey of the unexplainable. Yes, “Umbras de Barbagia” sounds very somber and abstract because it is, and the more you’re exposed to its thought destructive tonal values, the blackness just engulfs your soul, catapulting it to the side of the unknowns.
Just listen to the dying screams on the title track, and you’ll start believing it is you who is being put to death while conscious. This track is very disturbing and so epic in its direction, you’re bound to fall to your knees and beg mercilessly for your end.
The music and raspy, screamed out vocals at times can be only be described as very depressing, hopeless, suicidal, and dark to the point of eternal suffering.
The closest references that come to mind would be Blut Aus Nord and 1349.
Personally, I did not have a favorite number here, as all of the songs stood out equally for me, as Downfall Of Nur has the guts to be unique and profoundly devastating at the same time.
“Umbras de Barbagia” is not for everyone and especially those with weak minds, as freethinking and imagination are definitely encouraged here. [Avantgarde Music] Sarjoo Devani
