DEATH COMES PALE (CD)
Denmark’s Death Comes Pale play a heavy as hell, hard hitting groove pulverizing death metal that’s sure to knock listeners of extreme metal music flat onto their faces. Sounds pretty good, huh, it is, as this shit is nothing but pure old school death metal music savagery, with blood splattered all over its victims. This is somewhat of a rough description of their album work, which goes with their immense brutality quite well.
Death Comes Pale is nothing new, as this style of music was first made very popular by the likes of underground stalwarts, Altar, Iniquity, Konkhra and of course, Deicide, in the early nineties. Don’t get me wrong; I dig these guys because of their power and brutality all confined within 11 tracks of total sadistic cruelty.
Just listen to the hideous sounding “With A Foot In The Grave”, as it has the vocalist sounding like he is being buried alive all the while dirt is thrown on him while he pleads and fights his undertakers. Yes, this comes across as being very evil and unusual, but it is, trust me, Death does come pale when you’ve been thrown 6 Feet Under alive.
Listening to these guys is like watching a B-rated horror flick from the early eighties, as their lyrics are just as horrific and blatantly mind numbing twisted. “The Purification Process” brings images of a corpse being purified in some unearthly dirt from the depths of hell. The musicianship is definitely brilliant here and the songwriting is solid, and the growl, gritty vocals perverse enough to torture the living in all its glory. Death Comes Pale is not bad, but nothing refreshing either…
