COUNTLESS SKIES EP (CD)
This quartet simply known as Countless Skies, hail from Hertfordshire, England, and play a rehashed blend of melodic death metal.
This style of metal was done quite well by Dark Tranquillity back in the early nineties. Imsomnium and Omnium Gatherum also come to mind when listening to this four-song ep.
Mind you, this is ep is not terrible, it has some potential, but the fact these guys utilize growl vocals is a complete let down, with the exception of the last track. This song features some really well done clean male vocals. Now this is what I want to hear more of. Just because you add growls to a song, does not make it any less of a death metal song. Their music is fueled by decent guitar harmonies, riffs and synthesizer passages, but the growls drag it all to the ground for me. The atmosphere is definitely there, and can certainly conjure up vivid images of a sun-drowned sky in the distant horizon.
I am not just yet writing these Jolly old English lads off, as I am curious to see what they do musically, and hopefully they’ll ditch the shitty growls for the more passionately emotional singing style they’re capable of producing. [Self-Financed] Sarjoo Devani
