CONQUEST OF STEEL – Of Fire & Steel (2014)
England’s heavy metal quintet Conquest Of Steel’s music and vocal delivery screams eighties heavy metal music galore. Remember Iron Maiden’s “Iron Maiden” debut and “Killers” CDs and Judas Priest’s “British Steel” and “Screaming For Vengeance”, because “Of Fire And Steel” harkens back to the glory days of when heavy metal was just heavy metal, nothing more and nothing less.
The sound and production on this ten-tracker is just perfect, not too processed, and raw enough to make you feel as if you are watching the band live. It is this one element, which makes Conquest Of Steel such a head thrashing pleasure to listen to. I can only imagine people at their concerts headbanging, singing along to their songs, with their fists raised in the air, and their gleaming steel swords cheering on the band.
The catchy choruses on “Bring The Thunder” will get you into that sing-a-long frame of mind-I kid you not as this number is just so contagious. Also, what impresses me about this fivesome is their ability to keep their song structures straightforward yet interesting to listen to. This is a very strong quality as the songs become more memorable with such simplicity. Remember the old adage, “Less Is More”; it certainly applies to all ten spike-laden songs here.
Also, one other note worthy aspect to take note of here is the guitar tone, with its warm tube sound, which gives the distortion that classic metal sound you’ll crave more and more. This along with the superb drumming, solid rhythm section, and the true to the spirit of heavy metal vocals, Conquest Of Steel is out to conquer the heavy metal universe. It is definitely worth checking out Conquest Of Steel as they can go toe to toe with the more establish heavy metal groups. These guys are surely rewriting the history of heavy metal music.
