CARCASS – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel e.p. (CD)
Having always enjoyed Carcass’ style of extreme metal to the later more melodic metal direction, “Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel e.p. was a mild surprise with this 5-tracker more focused on groove and melody. It’s definitely heavy and convincing enough for you to take the floor thrashing up fellow metal heads, ha-ha. The overall sound production on this “Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel” is clean, heavy, and the consistency of keeping their music interesting with unique hooks makes for an interesting listen from one of UK’s most extreme exports. Just check out the harmonized guitar riffs on “1985”, with its penchant for melody and tight execution, and you will believe that Carcass is a lot more than just playing gore grind a million miles per hour like on their earlier releases “Reek of Putrefaction” and “Symphonies Of Sickness”. These two releases were great back in the day and even to this day are medical/gore grind classics.
This e.p. is a must have you truly respect Carcass for who they are as musicians and innovative songwriters. Highly recommended if you want a breather between their last full-length release “Surgical Steel” and their follow up full length in the future. [Nuclear Blast] Sarjoo Devani
