BLACK BOOK LODGE – Entering Another Measure (CD)
Danes Black Book Lodge plays an emotional, an almost dream-like state type of rock music with quite a bit of emotions running high and low. Not only is their music so moody but so are the vocals, and it comes across very strong on this record.
The crooning type of singing featured on this six-track album is very moody and hypnotic at times, something that’s sure to put the listener in a tripped out trance. The vocals are good, nothing that hasn’t been done before, as they’re very reminiscent of Soundgarden, with hints of Alice In Chains.
Music-wise, BBL are pretty interesting, with their dream-like, spatial guitars, rocking rhythms and clean passages that’s sure to put the listener at ease. The band is very tight, and their songs tend to flow really well despite the odd nuances within their songwriting. Even musically, they’re not all that unique, as some of their guitar rhythms, riffs and vocal harmonies comes very close to that of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, which are not bad influences, just nothing new for BBL.
Black Book Lodge has plenty of potential to tread their own ground and create a refreshing sound all their own. However, this is definitely not going to happen over night and will be a great challenge due to the many heavy rock bands around in the over populated genre.
“Entering Another Measure” is a decent first try and shows some potential, but unfortunately, it’s not something for me. [Mighty Music] Sarjoo Devani
