AXX OF HATE – Risen (CD)
This heavy and thrash metal foursome collectively known as Axx Of Hate, hail from the dust fields of Wichita, Kansas, and they’ve a unique sound that’s bound to grow as they progress.
This American metal/thrash/doom metal band play some interestingly written and composed heavy metal with tons of emotions and depth. One minute, they come across more akin to Overkill with their thrash metal rhythms, the next they’ve a killer resemblance to Solitude Aeternus and Candlemass with their clean singing and solid riffing antics. Mind you, they do not copy any of the bands mentioned above, but if you were to put these bands together, you’d get something very close to Axx Of Hate. I really enjoyed the clean vocals of Ricky Vannatta as they kind of grow on you, but the really low growls he does on every song with the exception of the doom metal sounding “Feel The Burn”, just ruins their material. These low end growls sound terrible, seeing that Vannatta is a very talented vocalist, so there is no need to emphasize certain parts within their songs with such rough vocals, as the clean singing is tastefully done. If they can ditch the death metal vocals on future releases, it’ll surely do them well, as they’re heavy, and capable of doing a lot more damage with their clean crooning alone.
This band has been around since 2011, and it is good to hear that they’re well on their way to creating some memorable heavy metal music tunes.
The eight tracks on “Risen” are executed with skill and so much-attitude, it makes you feel like ramming your fist down someone’s throat in metal triumph. I really enjoy the level of energy this band possess, which only makes the listener get into the music, and also keeps everything interesting.
Axx Of Hate is a band with tons of future potential for something big. Check it out. [Mulligore] Sarjoo Devani
