Akhenaten – Incantations Through The Gates Of Irkalla
Akhenaten is from the U.S., which is absolutely brilliant as, as of late, not many extreme bands coming from the U.S. are even worth mentioning…, but “Incantations Through The Gates Of Irkalla” is sure to possess your soul.
This duo of S. Wyatt Houseman (vocals and artwork) and Jerred Houseman (writer and composer) are the core songwriters and composers behind the ungodly mind raping blackened death metal, Oriental, Middle Eastern and Asian sounds. With the same last names; hopefully it is a safe bet that they’re brothers.
Imagine more mature, musically experimental, brutally heavy and non-trendy sounding death, black metal with Asian, Oriental and Middle Eastern influences that just do not shock the listener but makes the earth beneath them collapse.
Just take some of the Middle-Eastern, Arabic influences from Melechesh and the brutally heavy rhythms and Egyptian sounds from Nile, and you’ve more solid and mature extreme, unique metal band in the form of Akhenaten.
Some of the cold to hot soundscapes on this 12-tracker bring vivid images of the Sahara Dessert engulfed in a raging sandstorm. This is what you will hear, feel and experience on the haunting instrumental by the name of “Mis Pi”.
Everything from the musicianship, which consist of exotic stringed instruments, tribal drumming arrangements, use of the Indian Tablas along with the more modern skin searing guitar rhythms, bestial vocals, and modern drumming makes this album killer.
All in all, “Incantations Through The Gates Of Irkalla” has extreme metal qualities along with more of the exotic touches you’d come to expect from a group of such talented individuals. One listen to Akhenaten, and your mummified corpse will be sealed in earthen ash for all eternity. Satanath Records Sarjoo Devani
