Eastern Europe has always had a strong and diverse heavy metal scene, and it comes as no surprise that his sextet known as Agharti hail from the country of Croatia. “Change” is a very strong record with subtle and articulate changes within Agharti’s gothic metal music, powered by female vocals, which possess so much energy and conviction, you feel as if you’re experiencing the pain on “Change”.
I really enjoyed the music here too as it is not blisteringly heavy (I reserve the heaviness for the guttural death metal bands, ha, ha), something you can chill out to, maybe pump your fist in the air and let all your inner demons loose. These guys and gals, yes they’ve two female vocalist and lyricists in the group. Yes, women have been making a lot of headway within the heavy metal circles, and this band is proof that females know how rock out like the rest of them.
What I found very unique with Agharti is the fact that they’ve used well-known quotes from the following three peacemakers and philosophers: Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Madela and the Dalai Lama. These quotes are spoken by one of the female leads, and it comes across very strong, just sucking you deeper and deeper into their thought provoking lyrics. “Change” is a very solid album spot on, and definitely showcases the band’s ability to take their music and especially the lyrics to newer intellectual heights. The studio production is excellent as all of the instruments including the understandable female vocals can be heard clearly.
In fact, I would love see these guys life and bang my head to their emotional music. [Worm Hole Death] Sarjoo Devani
