Druj - Chants To Irkalla
Druj's "Chants To Irkalla" may be about the underworld of the great Sumerian culture, but this album completely rewrites Sumerian mthology from their sinister and bleeding eyes.
This power trio has written an album, which could be a solid doom/death album on its own merits, but the six mind obliterating cuts here come across like an ancient horror movie based on six unique episodes. Title track "Chants To Irkalla" drags you along on its terrifying aural journey all the while you're kicking and screaming to your ungodly death. The downtuned slow guitar harmonies mixed in with the uptempo passages makes for an interesting listening experience on this record.
"Consort Of Sin" starts of with its demonic and monstrous, painful growls backed by a hard hitting drum passaage and brain severing rhythm guitar assaults. This song is definitely one of the stand out tracks here with its uniqueness in every aspect, which will continue to resonate throughout your body after the song has ended. I just fucking love the downtuned guitar sound on this song, it's brutally heavy and in your face, while it makes you feel so crushed within yourself.
Druj is a deeply rooted soundtrack into the very darkest depths of your world and beyond, as it makes you dwell on all of the suffering you've endured throughout your existence. Chants To Irkalla is for one of those lonely nights you just want to feel so isolated and removed from our desolate world.
Give this slab of sludgy death/doom metal a chance, and I promise you it will steal your soul forever... Godz Of War Productions Sarjoo Devani
